Skills Development

This page on my blog is important to show the skills I have gathered along the way and the developments I have made throughout the process.

Photoshop is a program I have never experienced using before, so trying to use this first hand figured to be quite a task and became difficult when I could not achieve some of the effects I wanted to with my work. I have only ever used Paint Shop Pro to edit work so I had to learn from scratch how to manage this technology and its tools. It is much easier now and Photoshop is far more helpful and I found this when it came to making my magazine covers.

First of all I had to set my background for my images to be placed onto, so from the image of the woman I took the exact same black colour with the eyedropper tool so the images blended in better and looked like they were coming out through the shadows.

Next I made a new layer and had to take the picture of the woman and place her on top of the background. Using the rubber tool, I faded out any harsh edges so that her neck was blended into the background layer and moved her to the left of the page so that all the images that still needed to be placed had space.

Furthermore, I had to take the image of the male character and place him onto the background partially to look like he was behind the woman. Because I felt that his skin colour was too pale and did not fit in with the look of the poster, I decided to adjust and alter the colour of his face until I felt that his skin tone was a bit darker and fit with the poster.

Then I went on to place a picture of a blood splatter across the bottom of the page and adjust this until I felt I was happy with the way it was spaced out and the size of it for my text to then be placed on top of it.

Lastly I then wrote the text out and chose the right font that I wanted which was big and bold lettering. I then decided to put the actors names above the title, but put their first names in red to fit the theme and make an impact against the white text and their last names in larger text which is because this is what they are most commonly referred to by.

In conclusion to this I am more comfortable and confident with using Photoshop than I was beforehand and I have definitely gathered a lot of skills along the way during this process of being independent and creating work that I otherwise wouldn't have been able to produce.
